Significant Ecological Areas Workshops
Wolf River Basin, December 1999 and Fox River Headwaters Ecosystem, March 2002
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (Bureau of Endangered Resources and Northeast Region) contracted with me to participate in assessments of the significant ecological resources of these two major Wisconsin watersheds. My role was to design, facilitate, evaluate, and assist with the reporting for interactive workshops where local citizens and experts worked together to identify and rank significant ecological sites and discuss priorities for future conservation planning.
Related materials:
- Participants worked in small groups to map and rank candidate sites for future conservation planning.
- I prepared a cadre of skilled small group facilitators who made sure that each group had what it needed to be successful.
- DNR staff did the technical analysis and writing, and I wrote about the workshop process and helped prepare the reports for a less technical audience: Wolf River Basin Biotic Inventory and Analysis and Fox River Headwaters Ecosystem: An Ecological Assessment for Conservation Planning.
